• 3.3 million acres of private land will be reopened to big game hunting
relieving the pressure off other heavily hunted areas, and restores
property owners rights that were taken away by a Fish & Game Commission
“ruling”.
• These lands were closed beginning early 1950’s through 1974 due to low
game populations and have remained in place, despite herd populations
having recovered.
• i-193 will only affect PRIVATE LANDS within Indian reservation boundaries.
NOT TRIBAL LANDS.
• Provides hunting opportunities for descendants on their ancestrial
lands, who may no longer qualify as tribal members, but may have inherited,
or own private property on the Reservation.
• Hunting will not change in the rest of the state.
• Landowners will still need to have a license, hunt in season, and
follow all state regulations.
• Nonresidents will still need to buy a nonresident license.
• Special permits will still be needed in limited draw areas.
• Neighboring states of Wyoming, North and South Dakota allow big
game hunting on private lands within Indian reservations.
